- Natural air lime: highest purity lime containing min 90% CaO, classified as CL90S according to EN-459-1 standard
The TERMOINTONACO 2020 MGN is a nanotechnological thermo-insulating plaster based on a natural air-lime binder and lightened amorphous micro silica with high thermo-insulating and reflectance characteristics (the ability to reflect the heat back into the living area instead of letting it escape), with excellent thermal mass, acoustic soundproofing and fire resistance.
Being a flexible thermal plaster that can easily be applied on the whole wall surface with no gaps, it results in uniform thermal insulation with no cold-bridging, translating to energy savings and a high level of thermal comfort. Its excellent porosity results in high breathability or vapor permeability, which along with the lime’s natural anti-bacterial properties prevents the appearance of mould and condensation problems. Thanks to its very low thermal conductivity equal to λ 0.043 W/mK, Termointonaco 2020 MGN offers excellent thermal performance.
The Termointonaco 2020 MGN thermal plaster can be applied on all types of walls, both as internal, external or mixed insulation.
If applied on old walls potentially subject to dampness and/or salts (e.g. from rising damp, sideways water penetration, water ingress, sea salts etc.), for increased performance and longevity it is highly recommended to be applied in conjunction with the Rinzaffo MGN Roman base coat. The Rinzaffo MGN base coat acts as a breathable liquid moisture and salt-barrier, protecting the thermal coat from the destructive effects of moisture and crystallizing salts – which are the main reasons behind the premature breakdown of the plastering. Using the Rinzaffo MGN base coat under the thermal plaster will extend the life expectancy of thermal insulation significantly, by about 10 times, from years to several decades.
The Termointonaco 2020 MGN being a soft, porous plaster, it is best finished by a dedicated highly-breathable protective-decorative lime finish, which offers better mechanical protection than ordinary lime putty finishes.
The typical application thickness of this plaster is between 20-60 mm, however up to 160 mm can be applied in 20 mm coats, if needed. To save space, this plaster can be combined and used in conjunction with the Termorasante Aerogel MGN aerogel-lime super-insulating thermal plaster.

Here is a 200 year-old listed building in a valley, with very high water table and thick stone walls. It has been fully refurbished and thermally insulated with the MGN breathable lime insulation system.
This 150 year-old Victorian house has been replastered with modern building materials (cement and gypsum plasters). 3 months after the replastering the paint started to go. Another 3 months later the walls had to be fully replastered due to salt related damages.
1600s timber-frame listed farmhouse undergoing full refurbishment from top to bottom addressing sympathetically many problems including: new roof, lime pointing, timber infill panels, thermal insulation, replastering, structural reinforcement with lime and lime floors – just to name the most important aspects of the project.

Although all MGN plasters can be used on their own, in many applications they perform best when certain materials are applied together as a plastering system complementing and reinforcing each other.
Here are some other plasters which are recommended to be used with this one.
