- Natural air lime: highest purity lime containing min 90% CaO, classified as CL90S according to EN-459-1 standard
The TermoRasante Aerogel MGN (or Rasante Termoriflettente MGN) is a super-insulating thermal plaster, a thermal bridging regulator, anti-condensation, anti-mould, highly breathable lime-aerogel thermal plaster. Due to its high aerogel content offers great insulation performance in a thin form factor, saving valuable space.
Silica aerogel in a plaster form not only matches the performance of other forms of aerogel, such as thermal blankets, but it can surpass them. This occurs as a result of the Knudsen effect which makes the thermal conductivity of aerogel to decrease significantly in a small-pore environment where the nano-cavities restrict the free movement of gas particles – resulting in a better thermal insulation of the aerogel plaster than thin sheets of aerogel surrounded by large masses of free air.
Applied in just a few (5-10) millimetres the plaster can increase the surface temperature of old or new walls by 3°C to 5°C, eliminating condensation and mould. The application of a plaster also results in higher air-tightness than other forms of insulation, contributing to less overall heat losses.
This lime-aerogel plaster combines several mechanisms – excellent thermal performance, high solar reflectance and infrared emittance (the ability to reflect the existing heat back into the room) – which all work in combination, resulting in an outstanding equivalent thermal conductivity as low as λeq = 0.010 W/m*K, outperforming commercial expanded polystyrene foams with reflective coatings, while being highly breathable.
This thermal plaster can be used on any type of building, new or old, and it provides a building-friendly solution for the renovation and refurbishment of older buildings with solid walls.
Aerogel is a material that is 99.8% air. It is an extremely light material weighing about 1 kg/m³. It is also known as "solid air" or "blue smoke" due to its translucent nature and the way it scatters light.
Despite its lightness, aerogel structurally is very strong. Its impressive load-bearing abilities are due to its microstructure, in which 2–5 nm spherical particles are fused together into a network of highly porous three-dimensional clusters measuring just under 100 nm.
Aerogel is an extremely good thermal insulator because its three-dimensional clusters contain air pockets which almost nullify two of the three methods of heat transfer – conduction (aerogel being mostly composed of insulating gas) and convection (the microstructure prevents gas movement).
Silica aerogel - used in our plaster - is an especially good thermal insulator because silica itself is a very poor conductor of heat.

Although all MGN plasters can be used on their own, in many applications they perform best when certain materials are applied together as a plastering system complementing and reinforcing each other.
Here are some other plasters which are recommended to be used with this one.
