Between 14-16 May 2025, Core Conservation has attended the Conservation and Environmental Heritage Show in Ferrara, Italy.
The Conservation and Environmental Heritage Show (Salone del Restauro) in Ferrara stands out as a premier event celebrating the art and science of heritage restoration. The 2025 edition brought together over 5,000 professionals, researchers, and international delegates from 18 countries. Now in its 30th year, the event confirmed its role as a key meeting point for experts in cultural heritage restoration and conservation.
This year’s show focused on the combination of traditional restoration methods with modern technologies. Attendees could learn about new tools and materials—such as 3D scanning, digital documentation, and eco-friendly products—for preserving artworks and historic buildings.
The event showcased cutting-edge techniques and sustainable innovative materials—such as biodegradable gels and innovative cleaning methods for art conservation—that push the boundaries of restoration work. With an array of workshops and lectures, attendees had the unique opportunity to delve into the complexities of historical preservation, sharing insights that contribute to the global conversation on maintaining and restoring our architectural and artistic heritage.
In addition to technical sessions, the show welcomed the public with live demonstrations. Experts from institutions like the Italian Central Institute of Restoration showed how artworks by artists like Raphael and Rubens are preserved and restored, making these processes more accessible and understandable to a broader audience.
MGN, the manufacturer of artisanal heritage lime plasters, featured a premier stand at the event, and delivered a technical presentation on the restoration and structural consolidation of a section of the Ferrara Castle (Castello Estense), a 14th-century moated medieval fortress located in the heart of Ferrara, northern Italy.
