External Lime Rendering of an Old Farm House

Table of Content — open

Overview of the Project

The exposed walls of this 200 year-old farmhouse has been decided to be rendered in lime to protect it from wind-driven rain.

The first coat that has been applied onto the walls was a Roman waterproofing lime base coat. The purpose of this breathable coat is to protect the wall fabric from wind-drivn rain. Being a microporous (small pore) lime plaster, liquid water can't penetrate it. By allowing the passage of vapours it allows the fabric to breathe.

The second coat was the main render coat, which comes in 24 colours including white. Being coloured in depth, it does not require maintenance. Using ground earths for colouring, the colours won't face and age very nicely developing a soft patina charateristic to old buildings.
