Venice’s 500 year old historic Salt Storage buildings (Magazzini del Sale), consisting of 9 large warehouses for storing salt, was built at the beginning of the 15th century in a strategic point of the city. The complex was restored around 1830, which after its decommissioning, is presently used for exhibitions and cultural events.
The restoration and replastering of the building fabric, due to its extreme salts content, is in itself a challenge for conservation specialists.
